The issue of homelessness is a growing concern in many cities across Canada.

According to the most recent data, the City of Toronto conducted its 2021 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count on April 20, 2021. The count found a total of 8,715 people experiencing homelessness in Toronto, increasing from the 7,171 people counted in 2020. It’s important to note that these counts are snapshots and may not reflect the full extent of homelessness in the city.

Homelessness is a complex and multifaceted issue that requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach to address. The City of Toronto and its partners are working to address homelessness through various initiatives, including providing emergency shelter, support for people experiencing homelessness to find and maintain housing, and efforts to prevent and reduce homelessness.

The City provides a range of services for individuals experiencing homelessness through its 24-Hour Respite Sites. These sites are designed to prioritize ease of access to basic necessities such as resting spaces, meals, and service referrals. To access these services, individuals can call Central Intake at the designated phone numbers or walk-in to a service location. It’s important to note that each location has limited capacity, but the sites operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are pet friendly. The City ensures that all respite sites meet its 24-Hour Respite Site Standards, providing a safe and comfortable environment for individuals in need.
